Police on Tuesday submitted charge sheet against suspended national cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Jesmin Jahan Nitto in a case filed for torturing their minor domestic help.
The Investigation Officer (IO) and Mirpur Model Police Station SI Shafiqur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the Recording Officer of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka at 12 noon Tuesday. The IO said: “The charge
sheet will be produced in the court on January 12 for next course of action.”
Twelve people have been made prosecution witnesses. Earlier on September 6, journalist Khandkar Mozzammel Haque filed the case with Mirpur Model Police Station Under Section 4 (2) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
Mozammel found Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s residence, lying injured on a road in Sangbadik Housing Area of Pallabi in the city on the day. Happy told the journalist that cricketer Shahadat and his wife had tortured her.
On September 21, Happy gave a statement in a Dhaka court narrating how she was subjected to physical abuse by the cricketer and his wife.
Police arrested Nitto from Pabna Lane in the capital’s Malibagh area on October 4, while Shahadat surrendered on October 5. However, both Shahadat and his wife secured bail from the court.
