Creation of SAARC regional fund for disaster response emphasised

Deputy Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad M Fazle Rabbi Mia urged the South Asian nations to create a regional fund for conducting joint disaster response whenever a SAARC member state would be sit by natural calamities.
“SAARC member states should create a regional fund and provide support each other during and after any disaster,” he said while speaking as the special guest at a SAARC policy dialogue in Nepal, according to a message received here on Monday afternoon.
The Bangladesh Deputy Speaker also put emphasis on building SAARC Emergency Team as well as increase capacity of SAARC Disaster Management Center for further strengthening disaster response capacity of the region.
The two-day dialogue titled “South Asia Regional Policy Forum on Disaster, Climate change and Agriculture/Food Security” begun in Nepalese capital Kathmandu today. Mia said lawmakers can create mass awareness on adverse affects of climate change by raising their voices at their respective parliaments.
