Barisal Correspondent :Participants at a view exchange programe organised by Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) in Barisal on Friday night stressed on creating social awareness and movement to protect environment and prevent pollution of that.They also opined that they do not want to turn green land with granary, river and canal of Barisal region to a mega-city like Dhaka turned to a jungle of concrete and poisonous by environmental pollutions.The programme styled as ‘Environment situation in Barisal division: Duties of Citizen (Barisal Bivager Poribesh Poristhiti: Nagorik Samajer Karonio)’ was held at Barisal reporters Unity.The programme was presided over by Akkas Hossain, cultural activist. Dr. Abdul Matin, secretary general BAPA, delivered key notes on the topics.Among others Sirajul Islam, joint secretary BAPA, Zakir Hossain of Nagorik Udyog, Mobaswerullah from Bhola, Azad Mallik from Patharghata of Barguna, Anwar Zahid, Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, Dr. Syed Habibur Rahman, Ranjit Datta, Advocate S M Iqbal, Abdul Hye Mahbub, Shuvangkar Chakraborty, Rafikul Islam, Zakir Hossain Pannu, Linkon Bayen, Jobayedul Islam, Zahanara Swapna, Nazrul Biswas, Sushanta Ghosh, Anisur Rahman Swapan, environment activists participated in the discussion.The discussants agreed that filling and encroachments of water bodies including rivers, canals, ponds going on unabatedly in different areas of the division.Pollution of environment, expansion of salinity, loosing navigability of rivers, canals causing spreading of diseases, creating plantation, ground water level, psciculture and agricultural farming crisis in southern region, they said.These issues making adverse climate change affects more serious and critical in the affected areas, the discussants noted.They suggested creating more awareness with accurate information among the mass people about environment protection and preservation issues.Vested interested groups in collaboration with government creating environment issues more and more grievous by making those face to face against development issues, they told.So social awareness should be created actively with proper information for creating mass movement to protect and prevent pollution and damage of environment, participants of the programme suggested.
