Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury MP on Monday laid importance on creating skilled manpower particularly competent youth force to attain sustainable development goals (SDGs).
“Attaining sustainable development goals (SDGs) is possible only through producing skilled workforce and competent youths as young generation represents a major portion of country’s population,” she said.
Dr Shirin Sharmin was launching a two-month vocational training programme for youths of her Pirgonj constituency here on Monday. A total of 30 youths including 20 members of ethnic community are taking part in the training on welding and fabrication.
The training is being held under the auspices of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) at Rangpur Technical Training Center (TTC).
“Working youths are the main strength and driving force of the country. Bangladesh will move ahead towards development by enhancing the skills of young generation,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker said the present government under able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various initiatives for development of human resources to expedite national progress and improving the living condition of the people.
Youth would be able to find their own employments if they got the opportunities of training to enhance their skills, she said.
Dr Shirin Sharmin said grassroots people of Bangladesh are now reaping the benefits of development initiatives of the present government.
The Speaker also distributed driving licenses to 40 professional drivers on successful completion of their four-month training.
Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur Enamul Habib presided over the function while principal of Rangpur TTC Engineer Md. Lutfar Rahman delivered welcome speech.
Director of the BMET Atiqur Rahman and Joint Secretary Narayan Chandra Barman addressed also addressed the function.
Later, the Speaker at a function at Pirganj Upazila Parishad auditorium distributed cheques among the people of ethnic community affected by recent hailstorm, scholarship and education materials among meritorious students and wheelchairs and aid-inputs among disabled people.
Pirganj Pourasabha mayor Abu Saleh Md. Tazimul Islam Shamim, Pirganj Upazila chairman Noor Mohammad Mandal, vice-chairman Shafiur Rahman Mandal Milon and local political leaders were present.
