Speakers at a discussion meeting underscored the need for creating public awareness of the deadly disease cancer and its treatment.
The incidence of cancer is now on the rise. Tobacco use, both smoking and chewing is the single most important factor for cancer, they said while addressing the meeting organised by Civil Surgeon office at its conference room to mark the World Cancer Day on Tuesday.
This year the theme of the day ‘I Am and I will’. Civil Surgeon of Narsingdi Dr Mohammad Ibrahim Titon presided over the meeting. Sadar upazila health and family planning officer Dr Mohammad Abu Kawsar Oman, medical officer of the civil surgeon office Dr Nasimul Islam, BSS district correspondent Mohammad Abu Taher and member of local union parishad Joynal Abden addressed the discussion, among others.
Dr Ibrahim said about four lakh people are being affected by cancer every year in the country and cancer deaths can be reduced considerably if cases are detected and treated early.
He said we should know about the symptoms and causes of cancer and also take steps to prevent the disease.
Dr Ibrahim underscored the need for creating awareness among people to make healthy life choices in reducing the risk of cancer.
BSS from Rangpur adds: Health officials at a post-rally discussion have called upon the physicians, oncologists and intern doctors to ensure accurate diagnosis of cancer adopting advanced technologies for ensuring proper treatment timely.
They made the call at the discussion organised by the Civil Surgeon’s Office of Rangpur at Sadar Hospital auditorium in observance of the World Cancer Day-2020 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Non-communicable Disease Control Programme of the Directorate General of Health Services under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare extended assistance in observing day.
Earlier, a colourful rally with participation of the officials of the
Civil Surgeon Office, Department of Family Planning, different hospitals and clinics, students, teachers, nurses, local public representatives, civil society members was brought out on the city streets.
Presided over by Deputy Civil Surgeon of Rangpur Dr. Mrs. Kaniz Sabiha, Civil Surgeon Dr. Hirombo Kumar Roy addressed the discussion as the chief guest.
District Health Superintendent Arbindu Kumar Modak and District sanitary Inspector Mahbubur Rahman addressed the occasion as special guests.
Dr. Knaiz Sabiha discussed the latest technologies and developments in medical sciences being adopted in diagnosing cancer and conducting world class surgeries of different types of cancer accurately without causing pain to the patients.
She also narrated the latest technologies and techniques for taking care of cancer patients and put emphasis on leading a systematic life, conducting regular physical exercise, changing food habits and many other ways to effectively prevent cancer.
The chief guest put emphasis on creating awareness about cancer and discussed the challenges of the disease being faced by humanity and chronological progress in cancer treatments.
“The standard and quality of cancer treatments have improved many times at this present era of modern medical sciences and timely and accurate diagnosis of cancer with proper treatments can completely cure most of the cancer patients,” he said.
He suggested the oncologists, physicians and intern doctors to acquire ample knowledge and study during professional carriers to remain informed of the latest information on medical sciences and technologies to serve the cancer patients properly.
