Creating awareness to prevent early marriage underscored

Deputy Speaker of Jaitya Sangsad M Fazle Rabbi Miah laid emphasis on creating awareness at the grassroots level with the help of people’s representatives to prevent early marriage in the country.
“It is not possible for the government to prevent early marriage through the legal framework only,” he said this on Monday while addressing as the chief guest at the closing session of a workshop at the oath taking room of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban here.
Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad and Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) jointly organised the workshop ‘Capacity Building for Addressing Child Marriage and Birth & Marriage Registration.’
Rabbi called upon all citizens of the country including people’s representatives and non-government organizations to work together to eliminate the early marriage from society.
He said Bangladesh has achieved remarkable progress in attaining Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and welcomes the new development agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to remove all restrictions of the society.
He also stressed on birth certificate as the important document to verify the age of bride and groom while registering the marriage.
Presided over by parliament secretariat Senior Secretary M Ashraful Mukul, the function was also addressed by Professor M Habibe Millat, MP, and IPU Consultant Brigitte Filion.
