World Environment Day observed: Creating awareness on protecting planet stressed

Kishoreganj District Administration arranged a colourful rally, discussion, postering and documentary flim making the World Enviroment Day on Monday.
A discussion on connecting people to nature held at local collectorate conference room on Monday morning.
Deputy Commissioner Md. Azimuddin Biswas attended as chief guest while ADC (General) & Deputy Secretary Torafder Md. Akhter Jamil in the chair.
It was addressed among others by ADC (Education & ICT) Golam Md. Bhuiyan, Sadar UNO Abdullah-al-Masud, Principal Professor Md. Rafiqul Islam Khan, Sanak Convenor Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu, CAB President Alam Sarowar Tito, Hindu Kallan Trusti Lipu Roy, Freedom Fighter Unit Deputy Commander Md. Abdul Mannan and Ganatantree Party District President Advocate Dholon Bhomik. A colourfull rally brought out in the town marking the day.
Gouripur( Mymensingh) Correspondent says: The World environment day was observed in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh district in a befitting manner on Monday.
The theme is of the day was “Connecting People to Nature- in the city and on the land, from the poles to the equator”.
To observe the day, Upazila Administration organised a rally in the town . The rally led by Margina Akter, UNO of Gouripur upazila was brought out from Gouripur Upazila Office premises and terminated at the same place after parading the main roads of the town.
BSS from Rajshahi reports: Speakers at a discussion here on Monday called for creating awareness about wildlife and importance of protecting environment from further degradation for the sake of survival of all the living beings.
They viewed that the environment has been facing a serious threat due to various natural and manmade calamities posing identical threat to the planet Earth.
The Department of Environment (DoE) and District Administration jointly organized the discussion at Shilpakala Academy auditorium in observance of the World Environment Day-2017. “Connecting People to Nature” was the main theme of the day.
Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Noor-Ur-Rahman and Additional Commissioner Aminul Islam addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Helal Mahmud Sharif, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, in the chair.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Sarder Tamij Uddin Ahmed and Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan also spoke.
Chief Guest Noor-Ur-Rahman said emphasis should be given on providing positive incentives for the reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation and enhancing biodiversity conservation as well as promoting sustainable development goals of the region.
He called for creating awareness among all concerned including the younger generations and massive tree plantation to prevent environmental degradation that severely threatens existence of the whole planet, its habitation and civilization.
School, college and university level students need to acquire proper knowledge about the importance of biodiversity, natural resource conservation and climate change issues so that they can contribute to this field.
Importance should be given on capacity building to address climate change in the region with special reference to conservation of drought tolerant species.
BSS from Rangpur says: Massive tree plantation could play a key role to reduce environmental degradation being caused by the changing climate threatening life and livelihood on this planet, its habitation and civilisation.
The opinion came on Monay at a discussion jointly organised by the district administration and Department of Environment (DoE) at Town Hall auditorium to observe the World Environmental Day- 2017 here with the theme of ‘Connecting people to nature.’
Elaborate programmes, including rallies, painting competitions for children on environment, distribution of saplings, tree plantation, distribution of prizes and cultural functions, were chalked out in observance of the day.
A huge rally, participated by government and NGO officials, environmentalists, students, teachers, politicians, professionals, civil society members, community leaders and elite, was brought out in the city streets.
Divisional Commissioner Kazi Hassan Ahmed formally inaugurated observance of the day by releasing balloon and attended the discussion as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Wahiduzzaman presided over the discussion.
Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police for Rangpur Range Bashir Ahmed, Acting President of district Awami League (AL) Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of city AL Tushar Kanti Mandal, Additional Police Super Fazle Elahi, addressed as special guests.
In his welcome speech, Akhteruzzaman Tuku narrated the ongoing environmental degradation being caused by climate change due to global warming and steps taken by the government to cope with the situation.
Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed laid importance on reducing emission of industrial smokes, release of poisonous wastes, indiscriminate felling of trees and ensuring better water and waste management to reduce environmental degradation for a safer planet.
BSS from Khulna reports: Different organization here observed on Monday the World Environment Day-2017 in befitting manner with the theme ‘Connecting people to nature’.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting with a slogan ‘I am with nature’ held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner (DC) of Khulna with DC Amin UL Ahsan in the chair. Jointly organised by the Directorate of Environment (DoE), Divisional and District administration of Khulna, Khulna divisional commissioner Md. Abdus Samad addresed the meeting as the chief guest while chairman of Khulna Zila Parishad Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid,addressed as special guest.
Professor of Environment Science Discipline of Khulna University(KU) Professor Dr. Dilip Kumar Dutta and Professor S M Tariqul Islam of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) attended as main discussant while director of the Directorate of Environment(DoE) Md. Habibul Haque delivered the welcome speech. The speakers called upon the meeting that every citizen should become aware in preventing environmental degradation to save the human civilisation on the earth from unthinkable catastrophes. Narrating the severe consequences of environmental degradation being caused by climate change due to global warming, the speakers called upon all to work together.
BSS from Gaibandha, adds: The World Environment Day-2017 was observed in the district as elsewhere in the country and the globe on Monday with a call to make contributions to the preservation of environment and biodiversity.
This year’s theme of the day is: Connecting People to the Nature.
Marking the day, a discussion meeting organized by district administration was held at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) at 10 am.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Goutam Chandra Pal addressed the function as the chief guest and additional superintendent of police M. Moynul Hossain, and Mayor of Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were present as special guests. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Muhammad Mizanur Rahman presided over the function.
The meeting was also addressed, among others, by deputy director of local government section M. Shafiqul Islam, district livestock officer Dr. Abdul Latif Khan, assistant coordinator of SKS Foundation Ashrful Alam, students Avijit Roy and Nahida Sarker Nipa and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman while assistant commissioner M. Musabbiurl Islam was the moderator.
The survival of all animals and biodiversity is dependent on nature but rapid industrialization and urbanization along with increasing population cause severe damages to the environment and biodiversity, the speakers said. Due to global warming following the climate change, polar ice is melting fast that is contributing to sea level rise which may force the coastal area people leave their dwelling places and relocate their habitation, they added.
DC Goutam Chandra Pal said the government is very much sincere to protect environment, biodiversity and wildlife as it has already taken efficient laws related to environmental issues to control all kinds of pollutions and adverse effects of climate change.
The government has enacted the Bangladesh Biodiversity Act 2017 laying emphasis on protecting biodiversity and sustainable use of its elements, the DC said adding that effective measures had been taken to prevent river pollution and protecting the navigability of the rivers.
