Creating awareness against child marriage, women repression stressed

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury underscored the need for becoming more aware of the adverse impact of child marriage as well as violence against the women as violence against women has increased all over the world amid the coronavirus pandemic.
“Everyone needs to think of innovative solutions to deal with this situation. To prevent child marriage, it is important to conduct continuous project activities to raise awareness among parents in high schools and colleges,” she said.
She said this while speaking at the joint meeting of three sub-committees of Bangladesh Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (BAPD), which was formed under the ‘Strengthening Parliaments Capacity in Development and Development Issues’ (SPCPD) project, in a virtual meeting held on Tuesday at Purbachal Club of the city, said a press release.
She said a field has been created to reach out to the people through SPCPD project and BAPPD, which has built a bridge between the members of parliament and common people.
Expressing happiness over the extension of the project till December 2021, the Speaker said it would be possible to adopt an action plan from today’s discussion on what kind of public welfare oriented activities can be taken in the next one year.
Considering the Covid-19 epidemic situation, the Speaker advised to carry out the work of the project continuously and create public awareness activities on a small scale by avoiding large crowds while maintaining social distance.
Members of the parliament Meher Afroz, Shamsul Haque Tuku, Vice Chairman Abdus Shahid, Habibe Millat, Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, Arma Dutt, Adiba Anjum Mita addressed the meeting under the chairmanship of ASM Firoz.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Zafar Ahmed Khan, Senior Secretary, Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat, MA Kamal Billah, Joint Director, Project Director, Zakiur Rahman and officials concerned.
