Jatiya Oikya Front Convener Dr Kamal Hossain and Bangladesh Nationalist Party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in separate statements on Sunday expected that the Army would play a positive role in level playing field in election.
They welcomed the deployment of Army in polls duties ahead of the December 30 general election.
In a statement signed by Dr Kamal Hossain, where he was designated as the convener of the alliance for the first time, he said, “We hope that this deployment will create a congenial working environment which did not exist before.”
‘However, we hope that the Army will not stand against the interest of the people or seek to implement the agenda of an individual or a group of people,’ read the statement.
Army must create a level playing field for all parties
and play a positive role, he added.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul in his statement said, BNP expects that the army would stand for the interests of the people and would not act for any individual or a group of individuals.
‘Bangladesh Army always serves the country and the nation and their image should not be maligned by realising interests of any individual,’ he said.
‘I call on Bangladesh Army to ensure equal scope for every candidate and all political parties in the general election,’ read the statement signed by BNP’s Assistant Office Secretary Muhammad Munir Hossain.
