Unveiling his party’s 18-point goal to ensure good governance in the country, Jatiya Party(JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad on Saturday urged the government to ensure a proper atmosphere for holding a free and fair election.
Addressing a grand rally of the party at Suhrawardy Udyan, he also voiced his concern over the holding of the election.
“We’ve formulated 18 goals, which are the only path of freedom for the nation as well as for the JaPa,” he added.
The goals include forming provincial governments, bringing a change to the election system, introducing a full and organised upazila system, ensuring an independent judiciary, welfare of farmers, food safety and road safety, preventing terrorism, reforming the existing education policy and boosting industries.
Referring to the seven-point demand of a newly floated political alliance, Ershad voiced his concern whether the election will be held as it is not possible to fulfill its demands as per the Constitution. “I want to convey some messages to the country’s people. There’re many doubts about the election. I don’t know when the election will be held as the government is not ready to accept the demands,” he said.
He said his party has taken preparations to contest the election in all 300 seats.”I clearly want to say that we want to contest the polls from 300 seats. We, Jatiya Party, always take part in elections. We are also ready to take part in the national election this time.We want a congenial atmosphere for a free and fair election.”
