British short track speed skater Elise Christie has made a remarkable return from injury in a bid to compete in Tuesday’s 1,000 metres at the Pyeongchang Olympics.
The 27-year-old, dubbed Britain’s unluckiest Olympian in her native Scotland, smashed into the barriers at full pelt during the 1,500m semi-final at the weekend before being carried off the ice on a stretcher.
But tests revealed Christie had suffered no broken bones and after returning to training, she could be set to make a speedy recovery.
“Elise has made good progress and was on the ice today,” a British team spokesman said Monday.
“Team GB staff will continue to assess, support and monitor her overnight and tomorrow, before a final decision is taken.”
The Briton is the reigning world champion in the 1,000m, 1,500m and holds the overall title.
However, she has been plagued by misfortune at the Olympics.
