A seven-storey building has tilted dangerously in Chittagong’s Muradpur after developing cracks overnight.
The Fire Service has asked the building inmates to vacate their apartments soonest to avoid a possible disaster.
They say the building is not very old.
The ‘RF Niketan’ building started to tilt after many portions of it including pillars, floors and walls developed crack on Monday night, said Chittagong Fire Service Office’s Deputy Assistant Director Jasim Uddin.
A rescue team of fire service visited the area late on Monday night.
There are 24 families in the building, said the fire service official.
Since the front side of the building tilted those who live on that side had been asked to move first, he added.
They are examining whether there was any fault in constructing the building, said Jasim.
There was excavation of soil recently while an adjacent building was being constructed.
