A crab trader named Milon Adhikari (38) was arrested along with 35 tortoises from his depot at Digraj Bazar under Mongla Upazila in Bagerhat by RAB-6 on Tuesday afternoon.
He is a son of one Monomali Adhikari of Digraj village.
Lt. Commander Zahid, Commander of RAB-6 said, acting on secret information, members of RAB-6 raided Digraj Bazar, searched the crab depot of Milon Adhikari, recovered 35 pieces tortoises from it and arrested him.
The seized tortoises were handed over to Khulna Wild Animal Preservation Center. RAB commander also added, in the face of interrogation the arrestee confessed that he had been engaged in this illegal business in the guise of crab trader for long time. Normally after procuring tortoises from Chittagong area he used to keep them in his depot and sell them to aristocratic hotels and restaurants secretly at higher prices.
