CPA to be turned into users’ friendly port soon

Chairman of the Chattagram Port Authority(CPA) Commodore Zulfiqur Aziz said with the govt’s vision of 2021 , Chattagram Port will be turned into a users friendly seaport in the south aisa. He disclosed it while addressing the journalists on occasion of 131st founding anniversary program at Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium yesterday afternoon .
He said increasing bulk cargo, container and vessel handling became a challenge for this port. With the vision of government, CPA undertaken three phases master plan to meet the increasing cargo handling. He also said the New Mooring container terminal will be operated in full swing through procuring necessary handling equipments and in the meantime nine gantry cranes, 4 straddle carriers, 5 container movers, one rail mounted crane already procured.
He further informed that tender for procurement of 6 ship to shore gantry crane,
2 RTG, one mobile harbor crane already finalised and L/C for these equipments will be opened in Bank very shortly.
 Port chairman further said that British India government formulated Port Commissioners Act in 1987 which came into effect from 25 th April 1988.
From that date of effective of the commissioner act, the founding anniversary of the port is being observed on 25th April every year. He further said, the retired officials of the port authority will be honoured in the founding anniversary date.
Among others, Members of CPA Commodore Shahin Rahman, Captain Khondakar Akhter Hossain and Kamrul Amin, Port Secretary Omar Faruk were present on the occasion.
