CPA sets new record in container handling

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has set new record in handling containers recently adding new modern equipment to the Port.
Port Authority Secretary Omar Farooq told that in the last few years, the latest handling of all handles including gantry cranes, Rail mounted yard gantry cranes, rubber tire gantry cranes, log handlers, mobile cranes has been made in order to increase the port’s capacity with the country’s economic development, import and export growth
Besides, modernization in port management, automation, cooperation of stakeholders, and improvement of the skills of officers and employees have been taken. As a result, all new records of the port are being acquired.
New ‘Key Gantry Cranes’ and Modern Container Handling Equipment are being added at the main seaport of the country. Speed has come up in container handling.
On Friday port handled in the CCT and NCT terminals, which had a gantry crane in the last 24 hours, till eight in the morning.
 Earlier, these two terminals had the highest handling in one day with 6 thousand 158 TEUs in 4,204 boxes.
The matter was confirmed by Captain Tanvir Hossain, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Messrs Saif Powertech, the terminal operator of CCT and NCT.
He told that in 24 hours, we were able to handle 8,220 box containers of 2 ships in CCT, 5 in NCT including five in Pangaon. This is the new milestone.
According to the port sources, there are two ‘key gantry cranes’ in the CCT, 1 to 2 in the NCT-1 berth, 2 to 2 in the berth and 4 to the berth. There is no gantry crane in No. 7 berth. There are container handling of gear ships or cranked vessels. In the berths where there are gantry cranes, the ship’s container can be handled without gearless or crane. The cost of transporting goods is lower in the export of gearless vessels.
Four gantry cranes were brought to the CCT on the 28th, and five years later, on the 8th of August, there were five gantry cranes for the NCT. Chittagong Port Authority had signed an agreement with China on October 7 to purchase five gantry cranes. Then two gantry cranes came to the port in two stages. Last July 26, five more gantry cranes arrived at the port. In all, the number of gantry cranes stands at 4.
