Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has given a cheque for taka 30 crore 55 lakh to Chattogram City Corporation as holding tax, Port sources said.
On Thursday (September 23), the port’s Chief Finance and Accounts Officer of the Port Habibur Rahman handed over the cheque at Port Bhaban to City Corporation Revenue Circle-8 Tax Officer Mohammed Sarekullah. He said that the check was taken on behalf of Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin.
At that time Deputy Tax Officer Md. Hasan Ahmed and others were also present during the cheque handing over Ceremony.
According to the Port Authority, the City Corporation fixed Tk. 15 crore for the year 2002-03 but Port Authority paid Tk. 7 crore. In the next financial year , Tk.7 crore will be paid .
Another 10 crore was paid three fiscial year. But in the financial year 2008-2019 in two phase 36 crore taka was paid . Next three years 24 crore taka was paid in each year.
In the fiscal year 2012-13 114 crore taka was paid in addition to last year dues. In the fiscal year 2013-14 after deducting rebate in three years 35 crore 55 lakhs including dues total Amout was paid Tk. 379 crore 67 lakhs taka .Since then, the port authorities have been paying regular holding tax every year. Md. Habibur Rahman told that if the city corporation’s holding tax paid with in September 30, we got 12 percent rebate. So we have given the check within the stipulated time he added.
