Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman, Chittagong Port Authority, has inaugurated a tree planting program by planting an Amrapali sapling.
The tree planting program of the port started on Wednesday at 11:30 am with the planting of saplings in the premises of the port building. Port member (administration and planning) Zafar Alam, Member (Finance) Kamrul Amin, Member (Engineering) Commodore M Niyamul Hasan, Member (Harbor and Marine) Commodore Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, Secretary, Omar Farooq, Deputy Manager (Land) Zillur Rahman, senior officials including the head of the port department, CBA leaders were present on the occasion.
According to port sources, fruit, forest and medicinal plant saplings will be planted in various office premises, residential areas, schools, colleges, hospitals, rest houses areas, etc. of the port to mark the national tree planting program.
The main objective of the tree planting program is to save the country from environmental disasters and make it economically profitable as directed by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, port sources said.
