Chairman of Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral Zulfiqar Aziz attended a view exchange meeting with journalists in the conference room of the port Bhaban on Saturday.
He said, due to rain in the city for 10-12 days, water logging was created on various roads outside the port. The road between Chittagong port was severely damaged. Due to the large holes in the road, traffic has increased . There is no alternative to entering the port, trailers and covered van was the traffic congestion outside the port.
The basis of recent water logging, port connecting (PC) road repair, the barik building to Fakirhat and the cement crossing area constructed elevated expressway the main road is conjousted for the work of elevated expressway.
At the time the delivery of goods from the port was less than 4 thousand TEUs (20 feet long). Therefore, due to intense traffic congestion, it is essential to identify the natural disasters, the transport of the port and public transport on the same road and the alternative roads are not created for the city.
He said that after the cyclone funnel, on May 5, the maximum number of 4 TUs of container and cargo was delivered. In the Ramadan on July 12, 4,800 TEU’s containers were delivered. During these times, there was no intense traffic congestion outside the port.
The port chairman claimed that 7 thousand trucks, covered vans and trailers entered the port every day. According to the ISPS code conditions, the database is being created to ensure identity of these drivers and assistants.
We are already,suplied 29,973 digital pass and data bases was completed near about 32, thousand 769 people.
The assistant is discouraged to enter the port after the age of 13-15, according to the labor law. Apart from this, the database of 17 private offshore trailer 24 hours of movement has been completed.
He added that around 7,000 trucks were left at different gates and main roads to enter the port from 9am to 6pm as there was no truck terminal. Due to lack of C&F gate slip, driving license, national ID / online birth certificate for taking the pass.
Emphasizing the need to work jointly to reduce traffic congestion, he said that the implementation of the proposed two ring roads for the city to resolve the intense traffic congestion outside the port is critical.
The port has started the construction of the Bay Terminal Yard to reduce the traffic congestion. There is a modern truck terminals as well as product delivery of FCL Container.
