The 14th meeting of the Chittagong Port Advisory Committee was held yesterday morning with Member(Admn) Zafar Alam in the chair. The meeting started at 11 am on Sunday (December 20) at the Shaheed Munshi Fazlur Rahman Auditorium in of the port authority.
.State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury is the chief guest at the meeting. Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury was the special guest.Port Chairman Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad discussed the decisions of the 13th meeting chaired by Jafar Alam.
Deputy Minister of Education Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury, MP Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury, Moslem Uddin Ahmed MP, Wasika Ayesha Khan MP, Commissioner of Custom House. Fakhrul Alam, CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dobhas, District Council Chairman Abdus Salam, C&F Agents Association President AKM Altaf Hossain, Nurul Qayyum Khan, BGMEA Nasiruddin Chowdhury, Saif Powertech Managing Director Tarafdar Md. Ruhul Amin, BAFA Director Khairul Alam Sujan, Nurul Haque among others were present on the occasion.
BKMEA’s Md. Hatem also took part in the meeting on the zoom app. Vice President. Siddiqur Rahman, Rezaul Karim, Director General of the Department of Environment Rafiq Ahmed and others were present. Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel, Port & shipping Secretary Mezbah Uddin Chowdhury, Member of Parliament Mostafizur Rahman Chowdhury and others participated in the meet as discussants.
According to sources, the advisory committee meeting proposed to move private container depots or off docks within 20 km of the port, reduce various offdock service bills, intensify port auctions and destruction of expired goods, traffic jams, port specialized hospitals, toll roads, port stakeholders and trade organizations were discussed. The state minister emphasized the need of skilled manpower in handling the port activities for accelerating the activities faster, sources s said.
