The Parliamentary standing committee on shipping ministry at its first meeting revealed that the Chittagong port has been ranked as the 70th busiest container port in the world among the top 100 seaports in the world.
The meeting was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with committee chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam in the chair. The meeting also discussed on the programs of Chattagram Port Authority, Mongla Port Authority, Pyra Port Authority, Land Port Authority, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) and the Department of Shipping.
The meeting was also informed that if the capital dredging project in the Pashur channel is implemented, Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited will be able to carry nearly 45 lakh tonnes of coal without any hassle, a reliable sources of CPA said.
