Planning minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Saturday said Cox’s Bazar will be an economically prosperous zone within the next five years as the government has taken a plan to set up a power plant, deep-sea port and special economic zone (SEZ) in Cox’s Bazar.
“World’s largest sea-beach is in Cox’s Bazar but it is still not known to all . . . the government will build Cox’s Bazar as a special tourist zone and set up a SEZ to attract foreign investors,” said the minister while visiting marine drive in Cox’ Bazar, said a release.
Communications minister Obaidul Quader was with the planning minister during the visit. Mustafa Kamal said the marine drive, an 84-km long road along the sandy beach, is expected to be completed by 2015. Once completed, tourists can travel from Cox’s Bazar to Teknaf by road enjoying the spectacular view of the Bay of Bengal on one side and lush green hills on the other, he added.
He said the local administration has already been given order to recover government land from illegal occupants. He sought media’s support and cooperation in this regard.
