231 more die, 13,321 fresh cases

Bangladesh has reported 231 deaths from coronavirus, the highest number in a single day since the virus was first detected in the country on March 8 last year.
The new deaths surpassed the previous high of 230 on July 11.
Besides, the country reported 13,321 fresh infections, in the 24 hours to 8am on Monday, taking the total number of virus cases to 1,117,310 according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
“A total of 231 Coronavirus patients died in the last 24 hours taking the death toll from the virus to 18,125. The total cases of infection have surged to 11,17,310 as 13,321 new cases were confirmed during the period,” said the DGHS.
Dhaka counted 73 deaths, the highest among the eight divisions, followed by Khulna with 57 fatalities.
Chittagong division reported 43 deaths while Rangpur 17, Rajshahi 16, Mymensingh 11, Sylhet eight and Barisal six.
Dhaka logged 6,540 cases, the highest among the divisions followed by Chittagong with 2,288 cases and Khulna with 1,165.
On the other hand, another 9,335 patients recovered from the infectious disease across the country, taking the total number of recovery to 941,343.
As many as 45,012 samples were tested across the country, with a positivity rate of 29.59%. The overall infection rate stands at 15.3%.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.62%.
Vaccination
In the 24 hours till Monday morning, 678 people received a second dose of

Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine, taking the total to nearly 4.298 million. Meanwhile, a little over 1.522 million people received the first dose of the vaccine and are awaiting the second dose.
Additionally, 136,421 people received the first dose of Sinopharm vaccine during the same period, taking the total to 919,767 till now, while 2,586 people received the second dose till Monday. Meanwhile, 780 people were administered with the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine, taking the total to 50,092.
Also, 45,444 people received the first dose of the Moderna vaccine taking the total number to 205,903.
