The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday urged the people to remain cautious in order to maintain the downward trend of the Covid-19 caseloads in the country, recorded for last several weeks.
“From the last week of July, the test positivity moved downwards. The test positivity rate dropped from 32.55pc on July 24 to 5.62pc on Sunday. It has to be maintained to contain the deadly disease,” DGHS spokesperson Dr Nazmul Islam said it during a regular media bulletin on Sunday.
The spokesperson said that the test positivity rate had consistently stayed below 7pc for much of the past week. It is a sign of significant improvement he added.
“The test positivity rate was above seven pc on the first two days of the past week, and above six pc on the other five days,” he said.
The number of deaths is also decreasing, he added.
The DGHS spokesperson has urged the people to remain precautious, wear face masks, wash hands properly and maintain social distancing as per the guidelines.
“If all of us maintain the health safety rules adequately, the country does not need to go into another lockdown,” the spokesperson said.
Dr. Nazmul Islam said that the country recorded its highest number of covid caseloads in June this year, with 336,226 infections recorded in the month.
He said that more than 41.78 million vaccine seekers in the country have been registered with their NIDs and over 500,000 with their passports.
Meanwhile, more than 22 million people had received at least a single dose of an authorized vaccine till Saturday evening, the spokesperson said.
Besides, another 43 deaths were recorded from coronavirus and 1,383 caseloads identified in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.
On the other hand, around 2,887 patients recovered from the disease.
The death toll reached 27,225 with the new fatalities while, the total infections stand at 1,542,683.
Besides, total number of recoveries reached 1,501,541by Sunday.
