Covid infection rate 2.5 pc, 20 deaths

Covid-19 infection rate fell below 2.5 percent in the country in the last 24 hours, as per the health authorities’ data.
Data from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) showed that a total of 16,925 samples were tested at laboratories across the country and detected 415 new cases.
It showed the test positivity rate of 2.45pc in the last 24 hours.
According to the release, the daily test positivity rate has stayed below 5pc for 19 consecutive days, while the overall infection rate in the country stands at 15.73pc.
Recording below 5pc positivity rate for 16 consecutive days, Bangladesh has earned the eligibility for mass unlocking, as per the World Health Organization (WHO) standards.
As per the press release of the DGHS as many as 20 people died from Covid-19 in the country till Saturday morning.
Besides, another 543 patients recovered from the disease during the period.
The latest fatalities pushed the death toll to 27,674, and the total caseload reached 1,561,878 with the new patients detected on the period.
Besides, the total number of recoveries reached 1,523,134 as per the DGHS data.
The government lifted the nationwide strict lockdown restrictions on August 11, even though public health experts warned of dire consequences of the covid Delta variant’s spread across the country.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77pc. The recovery rate slightly rose to 97.52pc.
The seven-day moving average of single-day deaths in the country was 17 on Saturday.
Dhaka counted nine deaths, highest among the divisions followed by Chittagong with four fatalities.
Besides, Rangpur counted three deaths and Mymensingh reported two deaths while Khulna and Barisal one death each.
The data said that all of the 20 deceased died at different hospitals across the country.
Of the new caseloads, Dhaka reported 262 infections, the highest among the divisions, followed by Chittagong with 78.
On the other hand, about 35.82 million people in the country have received first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.
Among them, some 17.79 million have taken both doses, as per the DGHS press release.
Bangladesh reported its first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused the coronavirus, on March 8 last year. The first death was reported 10 days later.
