The Covid-19 death toll in Bangladesh crossed 26,000 mark with 89 new fatalities in the country in the last 24 hours.
With the latest figure, the total number of fatality reached 26,015, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it on Sunday.
It has taken nine days only to get 1,000 deaths across the country.
On August 20, the country crossed the 25,000 death toll from covid-19.
Besides, the country recorded 3,948 infections during the period taking the total number of cases to 1,493,537 so far.
The DGHS data showed that 27,921 samples were tested across the country, and got 14.14pc positivity rate.
Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries reached to 1,415,697 with the new number of 6,466 in the period across the country. Of the deceased, Dhaka reported the highest 27 fatalities followed by Chattogram with 21.
Besides, 10 deaths in Sylhet, nine in Khulna, eight in Barisal, seven in Rajshahi, five in Rangpur and two in Mymensingh division.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.74 pc, the data showed.
The division wise cases show that Dhaka recorded the highest number of 2,468, followed by Chattogram with 576.
To date, more than 8.86 million tests have been conducted around the country, leading to an overall test positivity rate of 16.84pc.
As per the data, the seven-day moving average of daily deaths in the country dropped further down to 104.7 on Sunday.
The most common application of moving average is to identify trend direction.
The health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19 on March 8, 2020.
