Covid death cases on rise in the country as the health authority recorded 12 deaths from the coronavirus in the last 24 hours up to 8am on Thursday.
Besides, the country has reported 3,359 fresh infections after testing a total of 27,920 samples across the country. The official data of the Directorate General of Health Services said that the positivity rate stands 12.03 pc in the period. The latest figure took the country’s death toll to 28,123 and the total caseload to 1,604,664, the data showed.
It also showed that as many as 302 people have recovered from the disease taking the total recoveries to 1,551,955 till the day. Of the deceased, eight were reported from Dhaka division while one each died in Chattogram, Khulna, Barishal and Mymensingh divisions. Six of the deceased were men and six of them were women. The country last logged 3,436 cases on September 2 last year along with 88 deaths in 24 hours while the positivity rate was 10.40 per cent.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh’s total tally of Omicron cases reached 30 with detection of nine more cases on Monday, according to the international organization GISAID, a global initiative on sharing all influenza data.
The country again reported zero Covid-related death on December 9 last year after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of reduction.
The country reported first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 last year along with 178 infections since the pandemic begun in March 2020 in the country. Health authorities reported the highest number of daily fatalities of 264 on August 10 last year, while the highest daily caseload was 16,230 on July 28 last year.
About 43.68 per cent of the total Covid-linked deaths in the country were reported from the Dhaka division, according to the DGHS.
DGHS spokesperson Dr Robed Amin said this at a briefing on Covid-19 on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Chattogram division has occupied the second position with 20 per cent of Covid deaths while Khulna reported 12.88 per cent deaths, Rajshahi 7.35 per cent, Barisal 3.38 per cent and Mymensingh the lowest 3.02 per cent.
