Covid-19 update Death toll nears 4,000 in BD

The death toll from coronavirus in Bangladesh hit on 3,983 Monday, with 42 new fatalities reported in 24 hours.
Meanwhile, health authorities detected 2,485 new patients raising the total number of Covid-19 cases in the country to 2,97,083 on the 25th week of infection.
Alongside the growing number of deaths and infections, the rate of recovery has increased too as 3,784 patients cured from the disease in a day taking the number of total recoveries to 1,82,875. Currently, the recovery rate is 61.56 percent.
RT-PCR facilities of the country tested 13,382 samples in the last 24 hours of which 18.57 percent tested positive.
Since March 8, 14,56,038 samples have been tested in the country and 20.4 percent of them turned out to be Covid-19 positive.
A press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest data.
It said that the fatality rate in the country is 1.34 percent.
At present, there are 1,10,225 active cases of Covid-19 in the country.
Among the 42 who lost their lives in the last 24 hours, 31 were above 50 years. DGHS data show that 1,947 patients who died were above 60 years and 1,105 between 51 and 60 years. The death rate among other age groups is significantly low.
Since March 18, over 1,920 patients have died in Dhaka division from Covid-19.
Besides, 880 died in Chattogram, 270 in Rajshahi, 322 in Khulna, 155 in Barishal, 184 in Sylhet, 167 in Rangpur and 85 have died in Mymensingh division, said DGHS.
Across the country, 20,287 people are in isolation and 52,727 people are quarantined at present.
