Country’s unemployment rate swelled to 22.39 per cent in July from 2.3 per cent in March due to the impact of ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, said Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on Tuesday.
However, unemployment rate dropped to 4.0 per cent in September due to restarting of the economy, it said.
The BBS unveiled the data on Tuesday by completing a perception survey on income and expenditure through telephone interview with some 2,040 people across the country.
The data also showed that the earnings of each of the households declined by 20.24 per cent in August due to the coronavirus crisis.
The expenditure of each of the household also dropped by 6.14 per cent in August due to the impact of the pandemic, it showed.
