Noman Mosharef:
About 66 Covid-19 patients, who were admitted in different hospitals, have fled away in last three days, according to the Directorate General of Health Services.
Authorities said, polices are searching for more than 60 patients who left the hospitals in different parts of the country, including Dhaka.
Analysts said that they took such unrealistic decision for the lack of confidence and fear of hospital treatment.
Health Department officials said that hospitals had information on all patients. So it was possible to find someone who had fled.
They mentioned that there were restrictions on the discharge of patients from the hospitals designated for covid-19.
Of the 66 coronavirus patients who escaped from various hospitals, 48 were being treated at four hospitals in Dhaka. The remaining 20 escaped from various hospitals in Barishal, Chattogram, Khulna and Rangpur divisions.
Many analysts say that the lack of confidence in hospitals’ treatment is a major factor in the escape. They also believe that these patients may have a fear of being socially degraded by their families.
Many people, who have been treated in hospitals in different parts of the country, including Dhaka, have complained about the mismanagement of treatment.
After being admitted to a hospital in the northern district of Bogura for several days, he recovered and returned home. One person, who did not want to be named, complained that the poor condition of the hospital had played a role.
“I’ve been in the hospital for a long time. I’ve only seen a doctor for two days. But there were a lot of cat. Another terrible situation was that only one bathroom was used. The water we drank from there was the same used by the positive patients.”
Dr Ayesha Akhtar, Assistant Director of the Health Department, said patients’ escape from the hospital was mainly due to their mental weakness and fear, which they felt in the initial analysis.
Citing a number of reasons, he said, “There is some information about the fleeing. Many may be fleeing in panic or fear. Again, if many are negative, their relatives after hospitalization may mean that no test results have been found yet and yet since the negative. There is no need to stay here. “
“Someone next to a lot of positive patients is dying of respiratory distress, then he’s terrified that the patient next to me is dead. If he stays here, maybe I’ll die too.”
He added, “There are full-time doctors and nurses in the hospital and they are treating them. But they run away because they have a fear or panic. They then think that he may not be being treated. But they are being treated properly.” , They don’t understand that. “
According to the Department of Health, out of the four hospitals designated for Covid-19 in Dhaka, more than 30 have escaped from the Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Brigadier General AKM Nasiruddin, Director, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said, “they cannot be said to be on the run. It is when the patient first arrives, then after two, three or four days, they felt a little better. Many do not want to stay. They want to stay at home.” That can only be done according to the guidelines. That is what is happening. “
However, Health Department official Dr Ayesha Akhtar said, “Patients who are fleeing are also being brought in. There is a database of those who have fled. In that case, law enforcement agencies across the country are working. They are being tracked.”
He added that the patient’s visit to the hospital could not be stopped. Even then, strictures have been put in place to prevent patients from leaving Covid-19 hospitals.
