Covid-19 fallout SCBA decides to give loans to 2800 members from own fund

The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) on Sunday decided to give interest free loan to its more than 2800 members to tackle the financial pressure emerging from the ongoing coronavirus crisis.
The decision was taken in an executive body’s meeting held on April 27, said a press release issued by the SCBA Secretary Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal.
The SCBA Secretary said, “More than 2800 members of the bar applied for loans through emails.”
The lawyers who were enrolled in the bar from 2014 to 2019 will get maximum Tk 30,000, who were enrolled from 2008 to 2013 will get Tk 40,000 and who were enrolled from 2001 to 2007 will get Tk 50,000 and the members who were enrolled before 2001 will get Tk 75,000 under the loan scheme as per the decision, read the press release.
“Disbursement of the money will start soon. The amount will be deposited in the receivers’ bank accounts directly as the court is closed due to the shutdown. The loan receivers will have to repay the money in five installments starting from December 2020 to December 2022.” also read the press release.
The SCBA President Advocate AM Amin Uddin said, “We have taken the initiatives to give interest free loans considering the troubling situation of the lawyers amid coronavirus pandemic.”
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Bar Association is also giving interest free loan to its 5485 members in need to tackle the financial pressure.
