Doctors and healthcare workers at Khulna’s Covid-19 hospital are overwhelmed as new infections continue to rise.
In the two months since April 1, as many as 105 people died in the hospital while 3,102 people tested positive for the deadly virus. Of them, 2,374 were residents of Khulna.
On Sunday, two more patients died in the hospital while 50 people tested positive in tests carried out at the Khulna Medical College Hospital. Of the new infections, 39 are from the Khulna district, six from Bagerhat, three from Jessore, and two from Satkhira.
The total caseload in Khulna so far, stands at 10,672 with 182 fatalities, said Civil Surgeon Dr Niaz Mohammad.
Meanwhile, patients at the Covid-19 dedicated hospital complained of not getting proper services, and in some cases not even getting a bed.

Iti Akter, niece of a Covid-19 patient said: “I had to bribe a staff member to get a bed even though it had no sheets on it.”
“The ward was so unclean that I had to clean it myself and the smell from the toilet is making us even more sick,” said Jainab Akter, wife of a Covid-19 patient.
The hospital’s focal person, Resident Medical Officer Dr Suhas Ranjan Haldar said: “The hospital has only 100 beds and currently more patients are being treated there.
“This is creating a crisis of grade four workers. From Sunday, another 14 more grade four workers have started working in the Covid unit.”
Dr Md Rabiul Hasan, principal of the hospital, said: “Recently, the number of patients have surged in the hospital. It will take a while to sort out everything.”
