Covid-19: Country sees 39 deaths, 2,212 new cases

Bangladesh on Tuesday recorded 39 deaths from Covid-19, highest in 57 days since September 21.
Besides, it also reported a total of 2,212 contamination cases, highest in 70 days since September 8.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said it through a press release on Tuesday.
Professor Dr. Nazrul Islam, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) told The New Nation, “On May 31, the infection rate hiked to 20 percent. After the date, the country witnessed 20 to 22 percent infection rate till August 20. Then the rate decreased to 10 to 12 percent and remaining almost identical till the present week.”
But the infections rate reached 13.83percent tested in the last 24 hours, according to the DGHS.
Meanwhile, the recovery count rose to 3,52,895 after another 1,749 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
This highest death and infection report came in the second wave attack already jolting Europe and North America in recent days.
In these circumstances, the government has started taking stern actions against the persons ignoring health rules outlined by World Health Organisation (WHO) and DGHS.
The government has immediately announced ‘No mask, no service’ in government offices.
Besides, passengers and vehicle workers are strictly asked to wear mask in transportations.
Shop owners association also asked the consumers to wear face masks before entering sales centers.
In Masjids, devotees also urged to follow health safety rules, while attending congregation prayers keeping social distance measures and wearing masks.
According to the DGHS, the death toll from Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh now stands at 6,254.
Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 4,36,684 including the new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
DGHS said that about 15,990 samples were tested in 117 authorized laboratories across the country during the period.
Meanwhile, of the total infections, 80.81 percent patients have recovered, while 1.43 percent died so far since the first Covid-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.
