Covid-19: Country registers one death, 291 new cases

Bangladesh has registered one new death from COVID-19 in a day, taking the total toll to 28,051, reports bdnews24.com
The COVID-19 caseload rose to 1,581,634 as 291 people tested positive for the disease in the 24 hours to 8 am on Tuesday, according to the latest government data.
Dhaka recorded the most cases among the eight divisions, logging 239 infections.
Nationwide, another 264 people recovered from the illness, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,546,071.
As many as 20,909 samples were tested across the country, for a positivity rate of 1.39 percent. The latest figures put the recovery rate at 97.75 percent and the mortality rate at 1.77 percent.
Globally, over 275.53 million people have been infected by the novel coronavirus and 5.36 million have died, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
Infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and territories since the first cases were identified in China in December 2019.
UNB adds: Bangladesh reported one more Covid-linked death with the health authorities logging 291 fresh cases in 24 hours till Tuesday morning.
The detection of the new cases after testing 20,761 samples took the daily-case positivity rate to 1.39 per cent during the period, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With the fresh numbers, the total fatalities rose to 28,051 while the caseload mounted to 15,81,634.
Meanwhile, the mortality rate remained static at 1.77 per cent during the period.
Besides, the recovery rate remained steady at 97.75 per cent with the recovery of 264 more patients during the 24-hour period.
On December 9, Bangladesh again logged zero Covid-related death after nearly three weeks as the pandemic was apparently showing signs of easing.
The country reported this year’s first zero Covid-related death in a single day on November 20 along with 178 infections since the pandemic broke out in Bangladesh in March 2020.
Bangladesh reported the highest number of daily fatalities of 264 on August 5 this year, while the highest daily caseload was 16,230 on July 28 this year.
