Bangladesh recorded 16 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours till Friday morning, the lowest daily death toll since 14 deaths were registered on November 14.
The overall death toll in the country now stands at 7,734.
A total of 785 people tested positive for the virus during the same period, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 520,690, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.
The test-positivity rate stood at 5.74% on the day, the lowest since 5.50% was recorded on April 8. The test positivity rate of all tests conducted so far is 15.63% , added the release.
Among the total infections, 89.36% patients have recovered with a mortality rate of 1.48%.
Of the 16 latest victims of Covid-19, 13 were male, three female and all died at hospitals.
Among them, 14 were aged above 60, one was above 40 and one was between the age of 11 and 20, said the press release.
Division-wise data shows that 12 deaths took place in Dhaka division, two in Chittagong, and one each in Khulna and Mymensingh.
Of the total 7,734 deaths, 4,262 deaths took place in Dhaka division, 1,428 in Chittagong division, 445 in Rajshahi division, 539 in Khulna division, 239 in Barisal division, 294 in Sylhet division, 350 in Rangpur division, and 177 in Mymensingh division.
The recovery count rose to 465,279 after another 883 patients were discharged from hospitals in the 24 hours till Friday morning. A total of 13,681 samples were tested at 181 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.
A total of 3,331,491 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in the country.
In order to make healthcare services easily accessible for Covid-19 patients, the government has introduced round-the-clock telemedicine services comprising 100 physicians, the DGHS said.
The DGHS further said 23,336,041 people have received healthcare services through the hotline, mobile numbers and health web portals, so far.
To receive information and healthcare services on Covid-19, the contact hotline and mobile numbers are 16263; 333 and 10655.
