Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) detained a covered-van and arrested its driver with 20,000 pieces of yaba tablets from Bottol area on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway under Sitakunda upazila of the district on early Friday.
The arrested was identified as Mohammad Faisal alias Mamun, 29, hailed from Maijdi upazila under Noakhali district.
On a tip-off, a team of the RAB-7 signaled a covered-van to stop but its driver Mamun tried to flee along stopping his vehicle on the highway, RAB sources said.
The RAB team arrested him and recovered the contraband items worth about Taka one crore from the covered-van in front of Sitakunda Petroleum and Refueling Station around 3.45 am, the sources added.
Later, the arrested was handed over to Sitakunda police.
