The executive committee of Comilla University (CoU) Teachers Association has been elected on Wednesday for the next one year with Associate Professor Md. Rashidul Islam Sheikh of Public Administration Department as the President and Associate Professor Swapan Chandra Majumder of Economics Department as the General Secretary.
Rashidul defeated Associate Professor Md. Abdul Hakim of Mathematics Department with a difference of 115 votes while Swapan Chandra defeated Md Anowar Hossain of the same department with 144 votes’ difference.
Chief Election Commissioner Prof Md Aminul Islam Akanda announced the results of the polls at the university teachers lounge at around 4:30pm.
Md Amdadul Hoque and Md Julhas Mia were elected Vice-Presidents, while Md Nasir Hossain, Mahbubul Haque Bhuiyan, Firoz Ahmed and Moqaddesul Islam as joint secretary, treasurer, literature and sports, and publications secretary respectively.
Md Zia Uddin, Md Sadekujjaman, Md Shamimul Islam, Kazi Omar Siddique, Mehedi Hasan, Md Tofail Ahmed and G. M Moniruzzamanwereelected as executive members of the committee.
Tow factions, Pro-Awami League group ‘Blue Panel’ and Pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party ‘White Panel’ contested in the elections while the later panel couldn’t make any position in the election.
A total of 225 teachers cast their votes in the poll.
