The district and sessions court, on Thursday, reserved its order on an anticipatory bail plea filed by Bollywood actor Surveen Chawla, her husband Akshay Thakker and brother Manwinder Singh in a fraud case registered against them.
On the complaint of Satya Pal Gupta of Phagwara road, the police, registered
a fraud case against the actor and others for allegedly duping him of 40 lakh.
Advocate Kanwalvir Singh Kang of the Punjab and Haryana high court moved bail pleas, which were fixed for hearing
in the court of Hoshiarpur sessions judge SK Arora.
The court, after hearing counsel of both the parties, didn’t give any immediate interim relief to Surveen Chawla and her husband regarding stay of their arrest and reserved its order for May 21.
Satpal, in his complaint, said his son Pankaj Gupta had come in contact with Surveen Chawla and Akshay Thakker (whom she later married) in 2014 through her Chandigarh-based brother Manwinder and had convinced him to invest in
a Hindi movie ‘Nil Battey Sannata’ through production company JAR Pictures, Mumbai.
“They wanted us to invest ?1 crore, saying the more we invest, the more profit we will reap. But, we gave them ?51 lakh. They promised to return the money within six months but till date they have not returned even a penny,” stated Gupta.
