The Dhaka University student, who was raped and tortured in the city’s Kurmitola area on the night of January 5, has given statement in a Dhaka court over the incident.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court (CMM) of Dhaka on Friday recorded the victim’s statement.
According to court sources, the Decetive Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the investigating agency of the rape case, presented the girl before the court and requested to record her statement under Section 22 of the Women and Children Repression Act.
With the permission of the court, the student described in detail what had happened on the night of January 5.
The girl, a second-year student of Dhaka University, was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend’s house in a nearby area around 7:30pm on that night.
Soon after getting down from the university bus, someone grabbed her from behind, gagged her and took her to an isolated place nearby. She was raped and tortured there, police said, quoting the victim.
The victim, in her statement to a law enforcement agency, described the rapist as aged between 25 and 30; height around five and a half feet; tan complexion; short hair; and clad in an old pair of jeans and a dirty black jacket.
In the wake of growing public outrage across the country, the rapist, Md Mojnu, 30, was finally arrested early Wednesday.
Later, the Detective Branch (DB) of police produced Majnu in the CMM court in Dhaka, seeking a 10-day remand.
The court placed the accused on a seven-day remand in connection with the rape case filed the victim’s father with Cantonment Police Station in Dhaka.
