Ananta killing: Court records testimonies of 2 more witnesses

A Sylhet court on Sunday recorded testimonies of two more prosecution witnesses in the case pertaining to the killing of blogger Ananta Bijoy Dash.
Additional metropolitan session judge Mominun Nesa recorded testimonies of witnesses – Jalalabad police inspector Nurul Alam, also investigation officer in the case, and cultural activist Rajat Kanti Guptaat – in the afternoon, court sources said.
The plaintiff’s lawyer in the case, Emad Ullah Shahidul Islam, told that nine out of total 29 prosecution witnesses had been testified so far.
Ô The court set October 1 as the next date of recording the witnesses’ testimony in the case,’ Emad Ullah informed.
Ananta, a banker and an activist of Muktamona blog and organiser of Sylhet unit Ganajagaran Mancha, was hacked to death by a group of masked man near his house at Nurani Residential Area at Subidbazar in the city on May 12, 2015.
His elder brother Ratneswar Dash filed a case with the Jalalabad police in that night against four persons.
The case was later transferred to the CID for investigation on May 26, 2015.
Criminal Investigation Department inspector Arman Ali, also investigation officer in the case, had deposited the supplementary charge sheet with the court on February 5 in 2017 against 6 accused with, the court sources said.
Abul Hossain, 25, Faysal Ahmad, 27, Mamunur Rashid, 25, Mannan Yahiya alias Mannan Rahi alias Mayeen, 24, Abul Khayer Rashid Ahmad, 25, and Shafiur Rahman Farabi, 30, are the charge sheeted accused. Names of 10 persons were acquitted from the charge sheet, the court sources said.
Earlier on October 9 in 2016, the IO had submitted a charge sheet for first time in the case against 5 suspected militants, except Farabi.
But, the court on October 18, 2016 rejected it and asked the IO to submit a supplementary charge sheet through conducting a further investigation into the killing incident.
