Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka directed the authorities concerned to submit the probe report in the journalist couple Sagar-Runi murder case on July 26.
Magistrate Khurshid Alam passed the order after Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohiuddin Ahmed of Rapid Action Battalion, the IO of the case, failed to submit the probe report yesterday.
IO Mohiuddin appeared in the court in the morning and informed the court
about the progress of investigation. He further told the court that he would inform a monitoring cell of the Home Ministry about the progress during a meeting scheduled to be held next month.
On the occasion, the court asked the IO to inform details of the meeting later.
Three agencies, including the current investigation agency, RAB, failed to submit the probe report, for which they were allowed 50 dates.
On February 11 in 2012, Runi, Senior Reporter of private TV channel ATN Bangla, and her husband Sagar, News Editor of the Maasranga TV channel, were found dead in their rented apartment in the city’s West Razabazar area. Their only son, child Megh, was inside the apartment at the time of the murder.
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station and the detectives started probing the murder on April 18, 2012. At least eight people including their “family friend” Tanveer Rahman were arrested in connection with the murder. However, Tanveer was released on bail later, but the others are still in the jail.
One day after the incident, Nawsher Alam Roman, younger brother of Runi, filed the murder case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
