The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka yesterday (Tuesday) passed orders to exhume the body of Shamarukh Mahjabin Sumi, daughter-in-law of Awami League’s former MP Khan Tipu Sultan for Jessore-5 constituency, for another autopsy.
CMM Bikash Kumar Shaha issued order asking the Deputy Commissioner of Jessore to take necessary measures after the victim’s father appealed to his court on Tuesday.
Shamarukh Mahjabin Sumi, 24, wife of Humayun Sultan Sadab, elder son of the former lawmaker, was found hanging in her room on November 13. She was a student of Holy Family Medical College of the capital. She got married to Humayun Sultan on December 26, 2012.
Former lawmaker Tipu Sultan claimed that Sumi committed suicide in her room. Following the incident, Mahjabin’s father Nurul Islam filed a case against Tipu Sultan, his wife Dr Jesmin Ara Begum and Mahjabin’s husband, who is now in jail custody. Later, a High Court Division of the Supreme Court granted bail to the former lawmaker and his wife.
On Sunday the autopsy report confirmed the suicide of Shamarukh. The family of the victim, however, turned down the report published saying that it was motivated. Dr Habibuzzaman Chowdhury of the Forensic Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital had conducted impugned autopsy.
