Court orders PBI to further probe on Shomi Kaiser case

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) was yesterday given the responsibility to investigate the Tk 100 crore defamation case filed against actress Shomi Kaiser for calling journalists ‘thieves’ at a programme in the Jatiya Press club in April last.
Magistrate Md Ziaur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order on Monday.
Earlier on October 24, Inspector (Operation) of Shahbagh Police Station Mahbubur Rahman, and also the Investigation
Officer (IO) of the case, submitted the final report saying that allegations could not be proved.
As a result, Md Nuzhatul Hasan, a complainant of the case, filed a naraji (no confidence) petition against the final report.
Mohammad Rakib, a bench-clerk of the court confirmed the matter to media people.
On April 24, actress Shomi Kaiser, also the President of e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB), lost her two cell phones during an event at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital.
Immediately after that incident, her security guards locked the gate and searched all the journalists and guests.
Mia Md Nuzhatul Hasan filed this defamation case under section 500 on April 30.
