Court orders arrest warrant against 7 for human trafficking

A Barishal court on Tuesday ordered to issue arrest warrant against seven accused for illegal trafficking of 16 people.
The tribunal also asked investigation officer of the case lodged in this connection to appear and explain the cause of charging the accused only for cheating instead of human trafficking.
The court also asked the ministry of home affairs to inform about the status of the case lodged in Vanuatu in this connection.
Manjurul Hossain, Judge of Tribunal for Preventing Human Trafficking passed these orders on Tuesday.
Advocate Quayum Khan Kaisar, Public Prosecutor of the tribunal and Advocate Shajul Islam Shaju, pleader of the plaintiff, confirmed the reports. Court and advocate sources said Jasimuddin of Rahutkathi of Babuganj upazila , his wife Jannatur Rahman Juthi, brothers Enamul Huq,Palsh Haoladar, father Harunor Rashid, father in law Kazi Shamsur Rahman, brother in law Imon Kazi, contacted in 2017-18 with 16 persons of Wazirpur, Babuganj and Muladi upazilas of Barishal district to Australia. But on the midway to Australia the 16 people were dumped by the accused in a camp on isolated island state of Vanuatu without food. From there 12 victims managed to flee and surrendered to the law enforcing agency of Vanuatu lodged complain. Then law enforcers arresting Palash Haoladar and his three cohorts rescued the 16 victims and with the help of International Organisation of Migration (IOM) returned the victims to Bangladesh in July 2019.
On behalf of the trafficked 16 victims, one Mofazzal Hossain of Wazirpur complainant lodged a case with the tribunal for preventing human trafficking accusing 7 traffickers and their cohorts on November 18, 2019.
The tribunal asked police bureau of investigation (PBI) to investigate the complain.
However, Sub Inspector Saidur Rahman of PBI, as investigation officer of the case, on February 19, 2020 filed charge sheet of the case, charging the accused only for cheating instead of human trafficking.
The complainant disagreeing with the charge sheet filed Naraji with the tribunal on September 9, 2020.
On Tuesday September 29, 2020, the court accepting the Naraji and rejecting the charge sheet asked to issue warrant against all of the 7 accused under sections of 6, 7 and 8 of act for preventing human trafficking.
