Court holidays extended till May 5

Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain on Thursday decided to resume the trial activities in the judiciary in a limited scale.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan will sit from April 26 to see the emergency matters in the ongoing vacation period maintaining social distance, said a notification issued on Thursday by Md Ali Akbar, Registrar General of the Supreme Court.
The judge has been conferred the jurisdiction to handle all kinds of cases read the notification. Besides, Justice Md Nuruzzaman will sit in the Chamber Court of the Appellate Division to see the very emergency matters during the vacation period, also read the notification.
The district and session judges’ courts and the metropolitan magistrate courts of the country have been directed to conduct trial activities on any two days in a week to hear the emergency bail petitions maintaining all health guidelines and social distancing during the vacation period said another notification of the SC.
Only one lawyer will appear in the court for a case, also read the notification.
Meanwhile, the adjournment of the activities of all courts, including the Appellate Division and the High Court Division of the Supreme Court, has been extended until May 5 as a precautionary measure to combat the infection of virus Covid-19 and prevent the spread of it.
Earlier on March 24, the SC authorities had issued a notification declaring closure for all courts till April 2 and later the closure extended till April 25 by some other notifications due to the global coronavirus outbreak.
