Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted more time to the Investigation Officer (IO) of Rana Plaza building in Savar to submit the report on its collapse.
Dhaka’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Kazi Shahidul Islam granted Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bijay Krishna Kar five more weeks and fixed May 21 to file the report after he sought more time on Wednesday.
Rana Plaza building housed five garment
factories and it collapsed on April 24, 2013. Official figures put the death toll at 1,135, mostly female workers of the garment factories. At least 2,458 people were reportedly rescued from the rubbles of the building.
Two cases were filed in connection with the incident. One was filed on the charge of death due to negligence and the other under the Code of Building Construction. The court had earlier sought explanations from the IO for the delay. He told the court that the charge sheet would be submitted as soon as possible.
