Rifat murder: Court accepts Minni’s plea to withdraw statement

A court of Barguna on Wednesday accepted the petition filed on behalf of Ayesha Siddika Minni seeking retraction of her confessional statement in the case filed for killing her husband Rifat Sharif.
After hearing, the court also fixed August 14 for hearing the petition. Minni filed the petition through the district jail authority on Tuesday, said her lawyer Advocate Mahbubul Bari Aslam.
Meanwhile, district Jail Super M Anwar Hossain said, that he forwarded Minni’s petition in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate M Sirajul Islam Gazi the same day.
On July 16, police arrested Minni, the main eye-witness in the case, and the court placed her on a five-day remand the following day.
Minni gave a confessional statement in a court on July 19 before completion of the 5-day remand.
On June 26, Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife Minni in broad daylight in the district town. The incident was captured by surveillance camera.
