The dead bodies of husband and wife were recovered by breaking the window of the house in at South Tarabunia village under Saturia union in Rajapur upazila of Jhalokathi on Saturday noon.
Apart from this, three people, including the couple’s son, were taken to the hospital in a sick condition.
The deceased are Amtala market grocer Forkan Howladar (55) and his wife Mahinur Begum (45).
The rescued three sick are Forkan’s son Mainul Islam (14), younger brother’s wife Mahfuza Aktar and daughter Saramoni.
Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police, Rajapur Circle Masood Rana confirmed the matter and suspected that the incident may have happened due to the poisoning of gas emitted from operating the AC by generator.
Jhalokathi deputy commissioner Zohar Ali and district superintendent of Police Fatiha Yasmin visited the spot around 1:00 pm Saturday.
According to local sources, at around 11:30 on Saturday, getting no response after repeated knocking, elder brother Salim Hawladar breaking the lock of the door entered inside house and recovered them with the help of locals.
Among them Forkan and his wife Mahinur Begum were found dead. The other unconscious three were immediately sent to Rajapur Upazila Health Complex.
Rajapur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Golam Mustafa visiting the spot said that the poisonous gas spread at night due to running AC with oil-generator. Five people were sleeping in the house. Two of them have died. Their bodies have been sent to Jhalokathi Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. Others have been admitted to Rajapur Health Complex.
Without receiving any response they breaking the door entered inside the house and found their bodies lying in a room.
Amir Sohail, a doctor in the upazila hospital’s emergency department ward , told, the sick three were admitted to the hospital and after giving first aid they were referred to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
