The young tenant couple of the house had been on the run since the incident. However, detective police finally tracked them down and arrested the couple — Apple and Shanta.
During preliminary interrogations, they claimed that trader Saiful came to their house as they had friendly relations with him, but he gave Shanta an indecent proposal at night and tried to violate her.
As she obstructed him, Saiful stabbed Shanta in her leg with a knife.
At one stage of a scuffle, they said drunk Saiful hit himself with the knife and died.
This cooked-up story only encouraged law enforcers to unearth the mystery behind the murder and they came out successful.
At one stage of the grilling, the couple admitted that Saiful was called to their house offering him to have sex with Shanta.
As Saiful came to the house, Apple and his friends took Saiful’s clothes off and demanded a large sum of money from him.
When Saiful started shouting, Apple stabbed him and he also mistakenly hit in the leg of Shanta. Later, Saiful died in the house.
Shanta said her husband asked her to phone Saiful and lure him with the promise of sex.
After the murder, the couple went into hiding.
Checking Shanta’s call list, police found that she made 6,000 calls in 15 days, exhibiting that she used to blackmail many people over the phone.
Mashiur Rahman, the deputy commissioner of intelligence department, said the couple used to invite people to their house and swindle their money in different ways offering them various drugs and liquor.
