A couple with 30 gold bars were arrested by Customs Intelligence officials in city’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday morning.
The smugglers were identified as Nirmal Saha and his wife Taposhi Saha.

A couple with 30 gold bars were arrested by Customs Intelligence officials in city’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday morning.
The smugglers were identified as Nirmal Saha and his wife Taposhi Saha.

A team of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) checked the couple
when they got down from a passenger bus near a toll plaza on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway around 8am.
During interrogation, Nirmal admitted that his wife had gold bars in her possession. Officials later recovered the gold bars worth around Tk 1.75cr attached to a belt wrapped around Taposhi’s body, the CIID official added.
Details of the incident could not be known instantly.
