Tania Begum and her husband Yousuf Khan alias Mamun have confessed before a court that they had killed Rokeya Begum and her son Rabiul Islam Rokon as she (Rokeya) forced her Tania for immoral activities with various people.
They gave the confessional statement before the court in Sylhet on Monday night, Amully Kumar Chudhury, Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, told The New Nation on Tuesday.
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Haridas Kuma has recorded their statement under section 164 of CrPC, the police official said.
“I have taken a decision to kill her (Rokeya) with all family members to take the revenge of forcing me to unsocial activities and drug trading,” Amully Kumar Chudhury said quoting Tania’s statement.
Earlier, members of Police Bureau of Investigation (PIB) handed over the duo to the Kotwali Model Police Station on Monday evening, said Gousul Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the police station.
According to the statement, “As per plan, Tania entered the house with her husband Mamun during Nor Waster in the evening of Mach 30 and fed some sleeping tables with food to Rokeya Begum and her two children. At one stage, she first hacked Rokeya to death with the help of Mamun and then they killed Rokon around 2:00am. They left five year old Raisa by thinking that he died in strangle by them.”
Tania was introduced with Rokeya at Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) shrine in Sylhet around two years ago. Rokeya used to call Tania, who hails from Cumilla, as a sister and kept her in Sylhet city by giving some facilities. Come by turns, she tactfully forced Tania for sex with various people for money, added the statement.
After passing few months, she met with Mamun from Sylhet following unsocial activities and a love affair developed between them. At one stage, they got married and lived in the city separately as per instruction of Rokeya. They took decision to kill Rokeya and her two sons thinking the future of their conjugal life, it said.
According to the statement, Rokey Begum also used to introduce Tania as a domestic help and bound her (Tania) for dealing drug trading
On April 1, Rokeya Begum and her son Rabiul Islam Rokon were found dead with throats slit in a rented house at Mirabazar Kharpara in Sylhet city.
